Effective Crappie Fishing Tips from Brandon

Tia: Thank you for joining us, Brandon. To start off, could you tell us what are some essential tools and equipment one needs for crappie fishing?

Brandon: You will need an ultralight spinning rod/reel combination. A 5'-6'6" rod equipped with 4-5 lb test line. The ideal combination is a Gryphon 800 spinning reel with a SlimeCat 6'6" Crappie rod.

Tia: Now, once you have your gear ready, where do you find and catch Crappie??

Brandon: Crappie are generally found on droppoffs, suspended, over shoals, rocky outcroppings and under brushy cover. They are fish that are found in groups or schools, so if you find one you will most likely find more. The 3 popular methods are: A slow retrieve jigging back towards you, a floating bobber 2 ft above the jig with a slow retrieve and vertical jigging from a boat.

Tia: Great advice! When it comes to setting up your gear, what do you think is the best bait for crappie fishing?

Brandon: Crappie are sight oriented and their main diet is small minnows. Therefore, a jig will be your best option (Handtied Out A Sight jigs) tipped with a crappie pellet. Soft plastics will also work.

Tia: What is the best time to catch crappie?

Brandon: The Crappie are especially active in the early morning and evening from March- Mid May.

Tia: Wise advice indeed. Lastly, do you have any final tips for crappie fishing?

Brandon: Crappie are very color oriented so it is important to keep switching jigs until you find the right one. Tip each jig with a scented crappie pellet and hunt for schools of Crappie. Once you find a school of Crappie and figure out the color they are after, you will have a great day on the water catching one Crappie after another! The best combination of rod/reel we have found is the the Gryphon 800 spinning reel paired with a SlimeCat 6'6" Crappie Rod. The Gryphon 800 reel is extremely smooth, durable and affordable. The SlimeCat 6'6" Crappie Rod is extremely responsive, strong and can detect the lightest hits. We have had great few weeks of catching Crappie so get out and enjoy fishing with this epic reel/rod combo!

Tia: Thank you so much, Brandon, for sharing your expertise with us today. It's been incredibly insightful!

Brandon: My pleasure.
